John Butterworth

John has been a Reader or Licensed Lay Minister for 27 years and a Christian since a teenager. An author, journalist and newspaper editor throughout my career, he and his wife Jan moved to Barbourne, Worcester, in 2013 from Stone in Staffordshire. They have two grown-up sons and two grandchildren in South Africa.

My particular interests are preaching and world mission, supporting Compassion, Mission Aviation Fellowship, the Bible Society, Tear Fund, Operation Mobilisation and Love Justice, an anti-trafficking charity. I am also a volunteer speaker with Open Doors helping the persecuted church.

Although Jan and I are both retired I give many talks to community groups and I write a weekly newspaper column for a green energy company. We enjoy travel, the theatre and I love watching sport, particularly football and cricket.

What does my faith mean to me? I wouldn’t have survived 44 years in the secular press without it.
